Mary Baldwin College for Women (MBCW) now has its headquarters in McClung Residence Hall, a fitting location for the historic heart of MBU. Did you know? University co-founder Mary Julia Baldwin herself lived in one of the residence hall’s rooms, and it’s named for her dear friend and colleague Agnes McClung.
At the start of fall semester, we were excited to debut some renovations to the McClung Lounge for MBCW students: fresh paint, warm lighting, comfortable group seating, a flat-screen TV, and easy access to a fresh kitchen space make the lounge feel stylish and welcoming.
But we need your help to finish! Your gift to the McClung Lounge will help support enhancements like framing and installing iconic archival photos from MBCW’s past, preserving this historic space for future students, and more.
Make a gift toward MBCW’s inspiring and memorable home, as our students carry on a legacy that stretches back to when Miss Baldwin walked these very same halls.
Give in honor of the year 1863 when Agnes McClung assumed co-leadership with Mary Julia Baldwin.
Miss Baldwin and Miss McClung kept the school open while the Civil War raged, providing a home away from home for students. As currency depreciated during troubled times, they adjusted accordingly and kept moving forward. Make your gift today in the same amount that it cost a student to live and study for three months in 1863.
Invite students to get comfortable in the lounge, just like Miss McClung did (Fun fact: She was in charge of furnishing the school and bought a sofa for $155 at an auction.)
Pay tribute to Miss Baldwin’s right-hand woman, renewing the spirit of 1910 when the Board of Trustees decided to name the building Agnes McClung Hall.
You know that College for Women students graduate ready to take on the future as leaders and changemakers. Make a gift in honor of MBCW students, thinking back to 1897, when 250 promising young women called Mary Baldwin home.
